The Darkest Night

Put down your brushes
And pick up your hammers.
The Darkest Night is descending
To feed the beasts
That gouge out the hallways of our minds.

Unnecessary blood was spilled,
And not for the last time.
We expect them to protect us
From the constant of human malice.

The bolts are loose
The wheels are wobbling
Ready to shoot off
And send this coach skidding into a gutter.

Let it burn!
Burn it to a crisp
Heap of hot ash.
Lets create a foundation
On which to build again.
Then what?

If nobody fights then nothing changes
We need to keep growing.
We need to keep learning.
If nobody speaks up then injustice prevails.

Change is a temporary patch.
It is easier to lose control
Than it is to focus any attack
On a systematic social virus.
You can’t bludgeon your problems away.
